United Shades of the World, Tryptic: Free Mediterranean / Same Roots, Same Light / In Search of the Golden Door
2022

BRAND 50, 50th Annual National Exhibition of Works on Paper, Curated by Shannon Currie Holmes, Brand Library & Art Center, Glendale CA

The UNITED SHADE OF THE WORLD work, carrying Italian roots, history and culture, which is part of who I am, at the same time, this history feels fragile like paper where Mediterranean symbolism now is problematic placed of displacement. But also evokes a sense of lightness and freedom.

Luigia Martelloni is a Roman artist with a Master's degree in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. She has worked, lived and travelled in Europe, the United States and Central America. Her interest for native cultures and symbolism brought her to continuously research this theme across borders. She is an established artist, photographer, curator, director and her aesthetics reflect a deep exploration of the collective subconscious. Her work seeks to reveal hidden truths and establish an intimate connection with the viewer, emphasising the artistic process and the relationship between object and space. Martelloni currently lives between Los Angeles and Rome, where she continues her artistic exploration.

For Mola: Arte Sin Fronteras, she has chosen the magical design of the protective spiral. Protective molas fulfil this mission: to protect the wearer through symbols and colours full of meaning.
